Ive thought about getting into steelhead fishing in the winter but never have Neutral I usually saugeye fish mostly during the winter. I also fish the few paylakes that are open during the winter and have caught 2 of my biggest blues in late November and december!

    Steve,
When you are paylake fishing in the winter what do you use for bait? I have about 2 dozen izzy's left in tha bait tank in the basement keeping them alive and healthy for 2-3 months is not problem. Are they good bait in the winter months?

Just about any fresh or vacuum sealed cutbait is good! I have caught blues on live bluegills and creek chubs in the middle of december before but fishing fresh cutbait just off bottom works the best, usually trolling SUPER SLOW!!! It can be tricky catching fish in the winter but be patient, once you find a school of blues it can be on!
